I was going to write up a step by step guide for securing your wireless network, but there are tons of them already out there. This one at about.com is well written and should provide you with plenty of info to get started. What so many people don’t understand is that these devices are not “plug and play”. You absolutely need to configure them. If you don’t, its equivalent to taking all your files, family photos, finances, etc and dumping them on the front lawn. Especially if you don’t use passwords or securtiy on your computers. And doubly so if you live in a densely populated area.

I definitely agree with you about securing a wireless network. However, there’s usually no need to go through a whole manual to do it. You only need to do one of two things: password protect the connection (REALLY password protect, not using your name or birthday) or filter the connection so only the MAC addresses you want can connect to your wireless services.
