Gadgets are boring, boycott black and silver!

Filed under: Computing, Gadgets — Ryan @ 10:06 pm

Why does Japan always get the cool colors? We are always so far behind. I wonder who does the market research on these things. It seems like the more expensive the “gadget”, the less a chance of it coming in alternate colors.

Cell Phones - Some phones are offered in varying colors, and since the cell phone is the ultimate accessory, I believe the colors sell well. I know lots of people that are waiting on the red Centro, and you always see RAZR’s in all colors.

Laptops - This is area which we’ve just started coloring. Dell and Sony offer choices, but if you get anything but black or silver, there’s a premium of $50 or so. Why?! Do these models cost more to support in the long run?

Game Systems - Home consoles very rarely come in a choice of colors. The Gamecube came in purple, black and silver, the PS2 came in choices of colors at various points and incarnations. It’s really the portables that come in more appealing choices, but when Sony chose to launch their new PSP-2000, the continues with black and added… wait for it…. white and silver. Now the other colors were refreshing, but now Japan is getting a red model. How about sharing the love? Give us more versions!

Cameras - Cameras are recently coming in more and more colors as the costs to make these point and shoot cameras come down. At least one model in each circular in the Sunday paper seems to be in a red hue or something.

It’s for this reason that ColorWare continues to stay in business. For a premium, they will paint your gadgets into custom colors that are sure to make you stand out.

Centro Case (Cheap!)

Filed under: Gadgets, Reviews, Mobile, Sprint — Ryan @ 9:45 pm

I was lucky enough to find a case for my centro this past weekend. Unfortunately it’s not available online, but at Target stores. There is a product locator that should tell you if it’s in stock.

And for my friends at TreoCentral, here are some close up pics. Way more pics than an $8 case deserves :)

And here we go…

Filed under: Gadgets, Mobile, Sprint — Ryan @ 8:42 am

As promised, Sprint launched the Centro on a Sunday. I placed my SERO order early yesterday morning and I should see the phone sometime this week. The sign-up was painless and the plan is simply amazing. Unlimited data, unlimited text, and 500 minutes for $30 total. We’ll see how this goes as I learn to adjust to a new service provider and device. Stay tuned as the saga unfolds!
