From T-Mobile to Sprint - Alerting

Filed under: Mobile, Sprint, T-Mobile — Ryan @ 10:31 am

I’m sure I will be comfortable with the device and service, but I’m worried about the Alerting options I have on T-Mobile that I might not get on Sprint.

1. E-Mail Notification - T-Mobile allows you to add up to 5 POP/IMAP accounts on their website. They will then poll these accounts every minute or so and send you an SMS containing the sender and subject when a new email arrives. This works great for me, because I get relatively no spam and I don’t need real time email. I then check my email 3-4 times a day or not at all if there’s nothing important I need to see.

2. SMS Sports Alerts - T-Mobile uses Infospace Mobile for their custom alerting. This service is provided through the TMobile account website. I have it alerting me on every period end score or NY Rangers games and every final score for all Atlantic Division teams. The service is reliable and FAST. I’ve tried setting up similar alerts on Yahoo Alerts, but they were horribly delayed. Does Spring offer something simliar? Can I use Infospace without T-Mobile?

And here we go…

As promised, Sprint launched the Centro on a Sunday. I placed my SERO order early yesterday morning and I should see the phone sometime this week. The sign-up was painless and the plan is simply amazing. Unlimited data, unlimited text, and 500 minutes for $30 total. We’ll see how this goes as I learn to adjust to a new service provider and device. Stay tuned as the saga unfolds!
